Entering Mme Lee is like gaining access to a secret club (until you walk by their open front window on Ontario Street…). No signboard, no high windows; just a black door, a handle made of steel and a menu on the wall.
Once through the door, follow the five candles on your left and you’ll discover a lounge with a vibe like no other. Playing Anna Lunoe as background music, the setting is dimmed and sensual. The tables line the walls while the bar, center stage, awaits the nocturnal crowd to come.
Drink wise, the Dictator’s Sangria is a must-have. You can taste the wine and the liquor. Concocted with a splurge of crème de cassis and cranberry juice, the drink is thick and satisfying while remaining summery with a citrusy aftertaste.
The menu also offers a few bites to share. If you’re looking for dips to nibble, skip the guacamole and go straight for the black beans purée. In it you’ll find a joyful blend of rich and spicy flavour with a hint of garlic. Also remember, oysters are $1 each on Tuesdays. Every Tuesday.
