At Baron Samedi, the spirit of the king of debauchery is alive and well – with, obviously, a good dose of sophistication. Dimed lights stand on trumpet chandeliers, tables are made out of old wooden doors, and a special cabinet keeps a sea of hot sauces under lock and key.
But nothing says Louisiana more than a good batch of soul-food-meets-creole-cuisine: deep fried frog legs, pulled pork on fries … it goes on and on… until you meet the FRIED MAC ‘N’ CHEESE BALLS. Oh my. How could I not know about these before?! Clearly, I need to up my foodnetwork game. Golden crisp on the outside with a runny dreamland of al dente cheesy pasta at the center, these babies are not made for the light-hearted (all appetizers are $12).
Snacks aside, no one leaves the Baron thirsty. The bar’s cocktail list offers classics such as Bourbon Limonades and Bloodys, all with a creole twist, at a decent price of $8-$9 per glass/$28 per jug.
Need plans for Halloween (or any other holiday for that matter. Baron Samedi Christmas Party anyone? I bet you’ll remember it your entire life)? Baron Samedi is a sure bet. With hot sauce and great ambiance, things are guaranteed to get out of control – wiggling eyebrows – .
