But his Sunday morning omelets (or your own, perhaps)? Not so much…
Your grey days are over: Marie-Fleur St Pierre’s second cookbook will turn your sweetheart into el Don del Brunch!
To celebrate her new release, the chef and her team welcomed friends and family (and.me…) to a delicious get-together last Sunday. The brunch-bites-buffet took place at Mesón, the sister restaurant of much sought after Tapeo across the street.
Greeting us with a sea of grapefruit mimosas, the Mesón family treated us with endless trays of the house brunch specialties, featuring;
Incredible spongy French toast with a delicate sour apple spread.
Light and fluffy banana pancakes enveloped with thick strings of dulce de leche.
Churros, so popular, that the server only succeeded at bringing us some on his third attempt out of the kitchen.
Fried oyster granola to dip in a rich paprika aioli: by far my favourite.
Delicate croquetas de jamón, a tortilla covered with bright tomatoes, and the list goes on.
In between bites, my sticky fingers flicked without shame through the new Brunch Bible (blame the dulce de leche). The recipes are colourful and simply deconstructed. The pictures are, truly, exceptional (apparently the poor photographer was celiac and couldn’t eat any of the food samples).
Ah – also, the book is in French.
While Google translate can be an interesting romantic activity, this book would only be most optimal if your sweetheart actually speaks a bit of Molière. If he doesn’t, then you always have Marie-Fleur, la Dama del Brunch, to cook you both a feast every Sunday at Mesón ;).
