Thankfully for us, the counter at the back of the Pepin Shop has reopened, and it is better than ever. 100% vegetarian and even vegan friendly, the healthy gluttonous stop has even converted my carnivorous self.
With a name that leaves no room for ambiguity, Le Comptoir Végétarien is catered by le Kitchen – a healthy caterer who works with a local produce supplier to bring you quality meals you’d be proud to serve to your mother-in-law. For today’s menu, they prepared us quite the lovely trilogy. To warm up, we were greeted with a comforting potato soup – creamy, with a hint of dill.
That was followed by a light soba salad made of buckwheat noodles, edamame, and a sweet coconut-peanut-ginger sauce. A lovely touch of the orient under a sea of western spinach – I’d highly recommend you give this salad a try.
Finally, the ultimate tagine came out from the kitchen. A mountain of couscous and slow-cooked vegetables twice the size of my face, the dish came sided with a few hot pastes created by a local Ethiopian woman to adjust the taste to your liking. All the food is available to go and in a fun format. The soup, for instance, comes in a mason jar for which you deposit $2.5. The money is given back to you upon your next visit.Sipping on a cup of the house tea blend, we reveled in a moment of quiet – content.
Welcome back dear counter and may you never leave us again!
