“You hungry?”
“Yeah… let me call Gabe.”
AK’s studio happened to be right above Gabe’s Muaythai club, so we decided we’d all have lunch together.
Say hello to Gabe, one of the heroes behind Chef on Call.
If you’re not familiar with Chef on Call, get ready to say goodbye to midnight hungers. Tasty and crazily affordable (everything on the menu is more or less $10), the Chef delivers gourmet comfort food at the wildest times of the day – even when Domino’s is closed.
In fact, dialing the Chef’s magic number — 514 844-2040 — should be second nature to all of us, because no one deserves to have a gurgling stomach at 3am.
Not convinced yet? Let me show what he has up his sleeve.
First out of the basket were the milkshakes. Day or night, you’ll crave these hyper-caloric babies (even at minus 30 degrees Celsius with the wind-chill). It is scientifically proven: a good dose of crushed Reese’s pieces blended with milk and sugar is a decent source of energy to get you through winter.Gabe then pulled out the Donator Burger: a chicken patty covered with a generous layer of melted mozzarella cheese and messy BBQ home spread.
Breaded crispiness? Check.
Chicken tenderness? Check.
All firmly stuck together as you bite into this gigantic burger? Check check check.
Plus, it comes with perfect curly fries – a throwback to 1994.
For each patty sold, $1 is given to a chosen charity of the month (hence the name). All donations in February will go to Dans la rue, a homeless shelter for youth that does amazing work in Montreal. You can’t do better: a delicious meal that also allows you to give back to the community. Lunch with the Chef wouldn’t be complete without his famous chicken tenders – so those came next. Forget soulless white meat you’ll find in the frozen aisle. Here, you get real juicy chicken tenderloins. Covered in crispy golden batter, the Chef’s tenders are perfectly moist and seasoned. Any sane human being would develop an obsession with them. We talked and talked until – well, let’s face it, Gabe had bigger fish to fry than yapping an afternoon away with a bunch of girls.
So he eventually left to head back to work.As for AK and I,
We each grabbed a chair and power napped.
